OBJECTIVE To evaluate the National Program of Iron Supplementation (PNSF) coverage, compliance with directions for using this supplementation and association sociodemographic factors in children aged six to 18 months old registered 35 public health centers Florinópolis (Southern Brazil). METHODS Cross-sectional study secondary data obtained from information system Health Department Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil (Infosaúde). Data on ferrous sulfate variables were all PNSF Florianópolis 2010. STATA 11.0 software was used analyses. RESULTS The covered 6.3% (95%CI 5.9-6.7) children; regarding age at onset its frequency adequate only 2.4% cases 1.5-3.7). There no child’s gender, maternal education level ethnicity or distance home center. CONCLUSIONS This showed low coverage inadequate directions. Measures improve strategy are urgent.
